The final season of Fear the Walking Dead arrives on AMC on May 14, and based on the first three episodes there is only one word to describe the tone: Dark. Very, very dark.
For the first time ever, I found myself squirming as I watched the first episode of the season. For a show that always held hope in high regard, this is a group of people for whom all hope has been lost. At least, for now.
The show continues to utilize an anthology format, which works well as we catch up with various members of the group who have been separated by time, space and ideologies. There is a time jump to contend with, and there is an ideological shift as the group finds itself under PADRE’s rule.
You can read an interview I did with Kim Dickens for What to Watch, where she expresses how Fear the Walking Dead season 8 is the darkest she’s ever played Madison.
