Imagine my joy when an email from Amazon popped up saying that Emma Chase’s Getting Real had arrived in my inbox. Like so many one-click pre-orders, I’d ordered it so long ago I wasn’t really thinking about when it came out, though I knew it was a vague “soon” in the deep recesses of my mind.
Needless to say, when it showed up on my Kindle at 9pm I started reading it right away. I should preface this by saying I read Royally Screwed yesterday after finishing something else; with Tangled coming to Passionflix on February 3 it seemed like a good time to have an Emma Chase-a-thon.
I wasn’t disappointed. A few hours later, I was through the entire 300-page story. I couldn’t put it down!
Getting Real is the story of ER doctor and single father Connor. Connor is divorced and raising three amazing sons. He has the support of his three brothers, but he misses having a connection to someone. ER nurse Violet, like many of her colleagues, has noticed Connor at work. She knows what it’s like being responsible for other people; she raised her siblings after their mom died and her father bailed.
A chance opportunity brings them together, and when the sparks fly they are drawn together as if fate brought them together. But fate’s a fickle mistress, and there’s a lot standing in their way.
Like other Emma Chase books, Getting Real is warm, funny and utterly charming. It starts quickly and grabs you from the very first page. Connor and Violet are easy to root for and easy to love, and Chase’s dynamic storytelling helps propel them through the twists and turns of their budding relationship.
