Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire landed its first major award nomination. The nominees for the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced and AMC’s hottest show of 2022 landed a huge nomination.
Interview with the Vampire was nominated for Outstanding New TV Series. It’s a huge deal that comes with some tough competition. The other nominees include A League of Their Own, Heartbreak High, High School, Our Flag Means Death, Queer as Folk, The Rookie: Feds, The Sandman, Somebody Somewhere and Willow.
GLAAD holds two awards ceremonies, one in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 30, and the other in New York City on Saturday, May 13.
Though it has been a critical darling in its first season, winning praise from critics and fans alike, Interview with the Vampire was overlooked by the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards. The omission certainly stung fans who believe the show was robbed of a nomination; while there is a lot of competition this year with so many amazing shows that debuted in 2022, it’s troubling that Interview with the Vampire was snubbed after its triumphant debut.
The real test will come when the Primetime Emmy Awards send out their nominations in July. So help me, Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid and Bailey Bass deserve nominations for their performances, the show needs a nod for best drama and the costume design, production design and music department need nominations.
For the record, Interview with the Vampire has also been nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in an Episode of a One-Hour Commercial Television Series. Cinematographer Jesse M. Feldman was nominated for the “Is My Very Nature That of a Devil” episode and the series took home a Rotten Tomatoes Golden Tomato Award for Best Horror Series in 2022.
Production on the second season is scheduled to begin in late spring, and while a premiere date hasn’t been set it is the opinion of this writer that season 2 will premiere in October 2023. Stay tuned for updates!
