I’ve been binging Outlander the past several days ahead of the show’s season 6 premiere on March 6. The time-travel romance is beloved by millions of fans and everyone has been on pins and needles to find out what happened – and what will happen – to Claire and Jamie and all of the other characters with whom we have fallen in love.
What I’ve learned during my discovery of the show and exploration of its complex themes is that the world of time-travel and Highlanders is a great escape. There’s a lot going on in the world right now, heartbreaking things, and being able to unplug for a while is absolutely necessary.
Outlander isn’t the kind of show to be watched passively. There’s a lot of nuanced storytelling taking place. The historical narrative, juxtaposed with Claire’s 20th century perspective, is as compelling and fascinating as her relationship with Jamie.
It’s been very easy to get caught up in Claire and Jamie’s world, and I’m eager to catch up to the new season. My only experience with time-traveling Highlanders comes with Karen Marie Moning’s series. Outlander is quite different from Moning’s books, but just as enjoyable. Having five seasons available to binge is exciting, but I’m also looking forward to catching up and watching new episodes along with everyone else.
If you’re an Outlander fan, I’d love to hear from you. What is it that you love about the show? What drew you in? Have you read all of the books, or did you start out watching the show first? Let me know in the comments!
