We knew this was coming. Fans of Sylvain Reynard’s work know that the middle section of Gabriel’s Rapture is an emotional rollercoaster, so it’s no surprise that the Passionflix translation from page to screen is every bit as emotionally intense as the book. Gabriel’s Rapture Part II stays true to the book while giving stars Melanie Zanetti and Giulio Berruti an opportunity to showcase their talent in this beautiful – but emotionally gutting – movie.
Julia (Zanetti) and Gabriel (Berruti) are on the top of the world, celebrating their love for each other. While they grow closer, forces are in motion to drive them apart. Christa (Margaux Brooke) is out for revenge and she’s determined to see Julia torn apart. Paul (James Andrew Fraser) tries to be a supportive friend for Julia, but ultimately the couple must face an impossible decision. Gabriel, trying to keep his promise to protect Julia at all costs, decides to take matters in his own hands, for better or for worse.
There are so many beautiful moments in Gabriel’s Rapture Part II. From a visual standpoint, the scenes in Belize are like eye candy. It’s so bright and colorful in Belize; it’s a sharp contrast to the muted scenes at the academic hearing.
Tosca Musk does a phenomenal job bringing this story to life from a script by Mary Pocrnic. And Redd Carter’s “The Other Side of Heaven” is the perfect way to set the tone for a very memorable, very important scene in Julia and Gabriel’s journey.
There’s a point in the movie where you really get to see how far we’ve all come on this journey. For Julia and Gabriel, for Passionflix and for us as an audience. Gabriel’s Rapture Part II is the fifth installment of the Gabriel Series, a beloved story cherished by Sylvain Reynard’s fans. When Gabriel’s Inferno Part I debuted during the early days of the pandemic, fans around the world came together to support each other through one of the most challenging events in recent memory.
It’s never easy to see characters you love going through rough times, but Zanetti and Berruti have such a powerful connection in these movies that they’re stunning even while they’re suffering.
Gabriel’s Rapture Part II is a moving, powerful continuation of Julia and Gabriel’s journey. Just be sure you have plenty of tissues handy – you’ll need them!
