The Brenner boys are back in Three Wisest Men on Hallmark Channel, and the third time is definitely the charm. Andrew Walker, Paul Campbell and Tyler Hynes deliver a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, wrapping up the story with an appropriately over-the-top bow. I had a chance to watch the movie ahead of its November 15 premiere and it delivers laughter, love and lots of holiday shenanigans.
In Three Wisest Men, eldest Brenner brother Luke (Walker) is expecting twins, Stephan (Campbell) is in the throes of wedding planning and Taylor (Hynes) has a job offer on the table that he can’t refuse…or can he? As if this wasn’t enough, Brenner matriarch Barbara (Margaret Colin) is selling the house. Needless to say, there’s a lot going on. And if it’s going to be the last Christmas in their childhood home, the Brenners are going out with a bang!
There’s so much to love about Three Wisest Men. Once again, Campbell teamed up with Kimberley Sustad to pen a script that shines the spotlight on all three brothers. Viewers are treated to a look at what’s been happening since the last movie, Three Wise Men and a Boy, while providing a look at what might – or might not – happen in the future. The result is a story that has the Brenner brothers looking ahead to the next phases of their lives.
My favorite Hallmark Channel Countdown to Christmas movies are ones that balance Christmas magic, laughter, love and what I’ll refer to as “low-conflict conflict.” Three Wisest Men delivers on all fronts. The drama isn’t so intense that you need a box of tissue to get through it, and the healthy helping of laughter and holiday magic make it the kind of holiday movie that can be watched over and over and over again.
Yes, I’m sad that the Three Wise Men franchise is coming to an end, but I’m thrilled that the final chapter provides the right amount of closure and enough of an open door for a return in the future if the cast decided to get the band back together. I’m also very confident that we’ll be seeing Walker, Campbell and Hynes back in action in some capacity in the future and that’s always a good thing.
Three Wisest Men premieres Saturday, November 15, at 8pm ET/PT on Hallmark Channel and streams the following day on Hallmark Plus.
