Passionflix’s Driven Season 3 Review: An Emotional Race to the Finish Line

Driven Season 3 is the long-anticipated final chapter of K. Bromberg’s beloved bestselling series on Passionflix. Olivia Applegate (Rylee) and Michael S. Roark (Colton) deliver their best performances to date as Rylee and Colton barrel down the winding road of life toward some unexpected speed bumps. Before they can reach the finish line, they both need to deal with the past before it consumes their future. 

I had a chance to watch the first two episodes of the six-episode final season from Passionflix, which encompasses the events from Crashed, the third book in Bromberg’s trilogy. The action picks up right where the second season left off, just after Colton Donavan’s car flipped during a race and turned into a fiery inferno as Rylee looked on in horror. 

Colton’s road to recovery is a long one, not so much because of the physical injuries but because of the demons the accident brings to the fore. Roark manages to capture Colton’s angst and frustration beautifully, but it’s how he depicts Colton’s underlying fear that is striking. In several scenes the entirety of his performance plays out in Roark’s eyes and it’s a joy to watch.

Rylee is dealing with her own fears and insecurities after Colton’s accident. Applegate delivers a heart wrenching performance as she struggles to remain strong for Colton despite his best efforts to push her away. Having been part of this franchise from the beginning, it’s very easy to see how Applegate has grown with Rylee. She brings an emotional maturity and vulnerability to her performance; she conveys so much emotion through her facial expressions alone that the audience can feel exactly what Rylee’s going through.

Bryce Durfee and Charles O’Shaughnessy deliver incredibly strong performances. Durfee’s Beckett in season three is the perfect blend of worry and absolute frustration when it comes to dealing with Colton. He elevates every scene he’s in as he tries to talk some reason into his stubborn best friend while also working hard to protect his best friend’s girl. And there won’t be a dry eye in the house as O’Shaughnessy and Applegate share an emotional conversation; it was teased in the trailer but let me tell you, the scene hits so hard. So. Hard.

Be forewarned: the first two episodes cover a lot of ground so be prepared for a relentless, emotional punch to the gut. Rylee and Colton’s journey isn’t quite over yet, but if the first two episodes are any indication then Passionistas are in for a very wild race to the finish line. 

Driven Season 3 was directed by Tosca Musk and it premieres May 7 on Passionflix.
