Where Does The Walking Dead: Dead City Go After Season 3?

By the time The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 came to an end, there’s no question that the Powers That Be in the TWD Universe have a plan for a fourth season. This season’s soft reboot was a hit with fans who appreciated the tonal shifts and character development, suggesting that there’s at least another season of Dead City in the works. So where does Dead City go after season 3? Let’s talk about our hopes and dreams for future installments of the show.

In the season finale, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) appointed Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) her sheriff after telling him she needs him running security while she serves as the leader. “I’m glad you said yes,” she told him. “Because I’ve got something I need you to do.” With that, the third season came to a close and the seeds of a fourth season were planted. But what does Maggie need Negan to do? Does it have to do with uniting the boroughs and expanding the territory?

One thing the TWD Family knows all too well is that the apocalypse is a rinse and repeat endeavor. There will always be threats – both from other humans and from walkers, with the former being more dangerous than the latter. Other people have always been the big problem, as Maggie and Negan experienced in Dead City season 3 upon welcoming two groups of survivors into their community. Sometimes the gamble pays off and you end up with valued members of the community, but even so there are usually a few bad apples who cause problems for everyone.

We imagine that expansion is part of the master plan for season 4. Uniting the boroughs and building more opportunity makes sense as Manhattan continues its transformation.

Given that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 will bring Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol’s (Melissa McBride) journey to an end (for now, at least), it seems like Dead City season 4 will be the torchbearer for the franchise until another spinoff is announced. (We can’t believe that we’ll be left with only one TWD series after Daryl Dixon wraps up in 2027)

Dead City needs to introduce some OG TWD characters into the mix. At the very least the show should introduce some familiar faces from across the TWD Universe. Sure, it would be great to have Aaron (Ross Marquand) pop up, but why not some of the Fear TWD or World Beyond crew? Surely there are some OG survivors out there who would love to call Manhattan home.

Not only that, but it would be great if Dead City answered a few questions about what’s going on with the other communities. We have no idea what’s happening with the Commonwealth, Oceanside, Alexandria, Hilltop or the CRM. With all the strides Maggie has made in New York, you’d think she’d reach out to her friends to let them know what she’s building.

Though AMC hasn’t officially greenlit a fourth season for Dead City, it’s safe to say that it’s very likely in the cards. The question is how the show moves forward as the only show in The Walking Dead universe left standing. Will the universe expand within the Dead City universe, or will Dead City give way to a new spinoff in the future? Only time will tell….
