As Midsummer Scream 2026 came to an end, a final surprise awaited guests at the Halloween and horror convention. With the announcement that Midsummer Scream 2027 would take place August 6-8 came even bigger news. After ten years at the Long Beach Convention Center, Midsummer Scream is moving to the Anaheim Convention Center. And it’s a good thing.
The 2026 gathering saw a sellout crowd of over 50,000 guests and more than 350 vendors. The Hall of Shadows was bigger than ever before. With so much growth since its inception in 2016, Midsummer Scream has grown by leaps and bounds and the event has simply outgrown the Long Beach Convention Center.
“The amazing community of Halloween and horror fans continues to grow, and we’re excited to be able to grow with it,” said David Markland, executive director and co-founder of Midsummer Scream, in a press release. “It’s bittersweet to leave a venue as amazing as the Long Beach Convention Center, but we look forward to all the new opportunities awaiting us in Anaheim.”
The Anaheim Convention Center is home to other major conventions like D23 and WonderCon. The larger space will give Midsummer Scream plenty of room to grow. There will be more floor space, allowing for more vendors and an expanded Hall of Shadows while also ensuring that guests aren’t packed together like sardines.
The ACC’s arena will allow for bigger panels from Knott’s Berry Farm and Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. The ability to host larger audiences in the arena will no doubt attract bigger panels and even more special guests.
As Midsummer Scream’s popularity continues to grow, it’s nice knowing that the event’s organizers are looking toward the future and planning for growth before the event reaches a tipping point. If you’ve ever been to San Diego Comic-Con on a Saturday, you know that walking from one side of the exhibit hall to the other is an arduous trek. Instead of trying to pack more people into the same space, the move to Anaheim allows for more fans to attend without creating massive bottlenecks and seemingly endless lines. Long Beach has been a great home for the event for the past ten years and now it’s time for the Halloween and horror convention to evolve into the next era.
The good news is that we’re not saying goodbye to the Long Beach Convention Center entirely. Season’s Screamings is returning to Long Beach December 5-7, 2027. This fan-favorite event will feature the Hall of Yuletide Spirits and vendors to help get your holiday shopping done. We can only imagine how happy Krampus is going to be….
As much as I love heading to Long Beach for Midsummer Scream, I’m excited for the horror convention’s future in Anaheim. I’m also glad that Long Beach Convention Center will now be the home for Season’s Screaming.
