After two seasons of Interview with the Vampire and now The Vampire Lestat, fans know that Rolin Jones, Hannah Moscovitch and the creative team love their Easter Eggs. It’s not surprising, then that they have filled The Vampire Lestat with lots of little goodies for eagle-eyed fans to find and in episode 2’s “Toledo” there’s a big one hiding in plain sight. So who is Thomas Pitt? Read on to find out.
In “Detroit,” Lestat (Sam Reid) is summoned to a meeting with the owner of Dracula’s Daughter, the hotel that was damaged during the Fang Gang brawl in Detroit. If you recall the soft grand opening event at the hotel, Lestat was posing for paparazzi and it said “Immortal Properties” across the step and repeat. There was also a name below the brand: Thomas Pitt.
Lestat’s lawyer, Christine (Jeanine Serralles) said that the hotel owner, Mr. Pitt, was requesting an exclusive fan experience with the rock star during the negotiations for the property damage sustained during the fight.
As it happens, Thomas Pitt was revealed to be none other than Louis (Jacob Anderson).
Now, Louis could have chosen any name under the sun as his alias, but the TVL team decided to give another nod to the 1994 cast of Interview with the Vampire by combining Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt’s names. Cruise and Pitt, as you might recall, played Lestat and Louis in the Neil Jordan film.
It turns out that Thomas Pitt is quite the businessman. In addition to the hotel chain, he’s got ties to all kinds of businesses all over the world, not the least of which is a 45% share of Lestat’s merchandise sales, much to Lestat’s chagrin.
It’s always fun to see nods to the 1994 movie in the AMC series. We can only imagine that there are lots more Easter Eggs to come as the rest of the season plays out.
