Whether you think of it as The Vampire Lestat season 2 or Interview with the Vampire season 4, fans are eagerly awaiting news about another season of Anne Rice’s vampires. Will AMC wait to make a big announcement about the next season at SDCC?
San Diego Comic-Con 2026 runs July 23-26 and AMC always has a big presence at the pop culture convention. Over the past several years, Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe has been front and center with installations across the street from the San Diego Convention Center. Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, Talamasca: The Secret Order and Mayfair Witches have all been featured on the Hilton Gaslamp hotel, often with elaborate offsite experiences to explore.
When it comes to making big announcements, SDCC is the place to do it. Not only does Ballroom 20 hold close to 5000 people, but thanks to social media there is a global audience tuned in for the Anne Rice Immortal Universe panels. (Note: the panels aren’t livestreamed but lots of fans, myself included, post on social media in real time so be sure to follow me here for full coverage!)
If AMC is looking to make a splash with their renewal announcement, making it onstage with thousands of screaming fans is a great way to do it. And we’re not just limited to renewal announcements – there could be cast announcements and even a musical performance from composer Daniel Hart. (Sam Reid will be in Sydney performing in Doubt so he likely won’t be able to attend)
Now, I have a few thoughts about how this announcement might go down. Given that The Vampire Lestat will have bowed for the season finale on July 19, the week before SDCC, making the renewal announcement works just fine. On one hand, they might announce another season of The Vampire Lestat. Or, they might take a swing and announce that the next season will be Queen of the Damned.
Since the concerts are almost over, Lestat is about to bring his rockstar era to an end. Fans who have read the books know that the story transitions into Queen of the Damned so this is to be expected; we even have Sheila Atim waiting in the wings as Queen Akasha. Rolin Jones said on The Vampire Lestat: After Dark that Interview with the Vampire was originally planned as a single season, so it’s possible that they threw everything into one solid season of The Vampire Lestat and will shift into Queen of the Damned in the next season.
I’m also holding out hope for news about Night Island, or something in the vein of Night Island but not quite what they planned originally. In my world, giving Armand (Assad Zaman), Daniel (Eric Bogosian) and Young Daniel (Luke Brandon Field) a chance to have their own Devil’s Minion spinoff would be amazing. And it works perfectly because the Devil’s Minion story is set during Queen of the Damned.
We won’t know AMC’s plans for SDCC for another week or so, but in the meantime my fingers are crossed for renewal announcements, spinoff announcements and anything the network is willing to share about the future of the franchise.
