AHS: 13 Trailer – Evan Peters’ Mr. March in a Waymo is a Vibe

I’ve been a fan of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story from the very beginning and I can’t wait for AHS: 13. Now that the official trailer has been released, fans have been pouring over every detail in search of Easter Eggs and clues about what’s coming when the series returns on September 24. There are so many things I could talk about, but what caught my attention first and foremost was Evan Peters as James Patrick March and March’s unusual – but fitting – choice of transportation.

If you need a quick refresher, James Patrick March was the character Peters played in  American Horror Story: Hotel. March was the man who built the Hotel Cortez with his murderous pastime in mind. Every year, on Devil’s Night, March hosts a dinner with some of the most infamous serial killers of all time, all of whom credit him for his tutelage over the years.

March is one of Peters’ many characters set to appear in AHS: 13. In the trailer, March can be seen driving away on a mission to hunt some witches, and his choice of transportation is oddly perfect.

If you take a look at the 8-second mark, you’ll see March telling someone off camera to get into the car. “It’s witch-hunting season,” he  proclaims a few moments later. It’s obvious March isn’t driving, so naturally you assume he’s being chauffeured. Or maybe it’s an Uber or a Lyft. But no, he’s in a driverless vehicle. The scene is dark so we can’t tell if it’s an actual Waymo or some generic variation; either way, it’s entirely a propos given the company’s foothold in Los Angeles.

Ryan Murphy is known for lampooning trends and fads in all of his shows. Heck, even in Hotel, which aired in 2015, the show lambasted cringey influencers and completely preventable measles outbreaks in middle schoolers.

In this case, though, having March drive away in a Waymo makes sense from a canon perspective. Yes, he’s an elitist who would have had a driver back in his heyday, but now he’s a ghost and ghosts probably don’t drive. We also know that Hypodermic Sally (Sarah Paulson) is a wizard with technology, so perhaps she called for the driverless vehicle to pick March up and deliver him to his destination.

It’s a reimagining of the old ghost in the machine – a ghost who may or may not be visible to passersby is being driven by a driverless car. Who knows, maybe he’s controlling the thing.

The AHS: 13 trailer is a treasure trove of little details that will no doubt make the upcoming season unforgettable. What are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments!
