Horror and science fiction comic book publisher Storm King Comics will be at Midsummer Scream 2026 to celebrate several new titles, including John Carpenter’s Cathedral. Storm King Comics will be on the exhibit hall floor in booth #143 at the horror convention, which runs August 7-9 at the Long Beach Convention Center. Let’s take a look at what they have planned for the weekend.
New Horror Releases
These are some of the new releases Storm King Comics will be promoting during the weekend. Members of the creative teams will be on hand for signings. (See below for their signing schedules)

CATHEDRAL – A master storyteller in horror and science fiction across the disciplines of film, music, comics and games, John Carpenter has been terrifying audiences, writing, directing and producing timeless genre movies like Halloween, The Thing, and Escape From New York, and as an editor and contributor alongside Sandy King to graphic novel anthologies and series Tales for a HalloweeNight, Asylum and Tales of Science Fiction, just to name a few. More than five decades in, for the first time in his career he will release his first original graphic novel with Cathedral.

CHAPLAIN – a surreal and terrifying debut graphic novel co-written by creators Brad and Rev. Wesley Sun. In the book, illustrated by acclaimed artist Raúlo Cáceres, colored by Ryan Winn and lettered by Marshall Dillon, an aging and increasingly weary chaplain discovers an ancient, unknowable monster stalking his hospital, forcing him to confront the existential terror of his own mortality. Along with his energetic young protégé, he is pushed to the brink of insanity as his convictions and very grasp on reality begin to unravel.

RED RIDING: RISE OF THE ALPHA – Written by LGBTQ+ author Neo Edmund and illustrated by Jan Duursema, the book follows seventeen-year-old Red Riding and her sudden return home to Wayward Woods after receiving an ominous letter. She reconnects with her grandmother and long-lost friends as she discovers her superpowers, gifted to her by ancient lunar spirits, and rises to the occasion becoming the Alpha Huntress.

DEAD FLOWERS – In 1949, a gruesome murder shakes the small town that’s home to the notorious Aztec Hotel, once a Prohibition-era den for gamblers, drinkers, and sexual deviants. A mysterious killer dubbed the “Flower Arranger” mixes and matches the body parts of three victims―Violet, Rose, and Lily―in a grotesque display before vanishing into thin air, leaving the mystery unsolved for decades. Catch the killer in this twisted thriller from Edgar Award-nominated Duane Swierczynski.
