One of the best things about the Anne Rice Immortal Universe has been seeing Rice’s beloved characters come to life on screen. Joseph Potter’s portrayal of Nicolas De Lenfent (NOT Nicholas, for the record) has been dazzling us since Interview with the Vampire season 2 and now fans are getting even more Nicky to love in The Vampire Lestat. Potter shared some behind the scenes photos of his journey as Lestat’s (Sam Reid) first love and they’re so incredible wholesome that we need a whole Nicky spinoff just to have more time with Potter.
Potter’s instagram has been a flurry of activity since the season premiered in early June, but the most recent photo dump is so darn precious, severed hands and all. He captioned the post with clarification on the spelling of his character’s name: “Nicolas not Nicholas.”

As you can see, Potter shared some behind the scenes photos of his severed hands, the bloody fireplace where he cut off his hand and a picture of himself sans hand. There’s even a look at the bite wounds poor Nicky sustained at the Theatre des Vampires.
What we love are the photos of Potter and fellow TVL cast members Assad Zaman and Damien Atkins. He’s looking stylish with Zaman, with both men dressed for a night at the Theatre. The photo with Atkins steals your heart; though Magnus stole Lestat away from Nicky in the dead of night, dragging him from the window of their bedroom in Paris, Potter and Atkins in full costume with Atkins holding Potter’s leg is nothing short of adorable.
At the end of the slideshow there’s a video of Potter playing the violin as he prepares to bring Nicky to life.
Potter’s time on The Vampire Lestat has been so wonderful and I’m thankful that narrative devices like flashbacks and hallucinations exist so we don’t have to say goodbye to beloved characters even though Armand has tossed them into the fireplace and held them there with the poker until they burn up….
Which of Potter’s pictures do you like best? Let us know in the comments! And be sure to catch The Vampire Lestat Sundays at 9pm ET/PT on AMC and streaming the same day on AMC+.
