Back in 2023, the Anne Rice Immortal Universe team teased a Night Island series that, based on the title alone, would have to be tied to the Devil’s Minion story featuring Armand (Assad Zaman) and his fledgling, Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) that was featured in Queen of the Damned. As we celebrate the release of The Vampire Lestat, and after Mark Johnson teased that “we’re getting closer” to Night Island, I can’t help but wonder how that could all work and whether a Devil’s Minion series could be the answer to everything.
As Queen of the Damned is the third book in Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, the story technically takes place after the events in The Vampire Lestat. The sections featuring Armand and Daniel’s history include present day events after Lestat’s concert as well as flashbacks going all the way back to the night Daniel interviewed Louis (Jacob Anderson) in 1970s San Francisco. (In the book, Daniel left San Francisco for New Orleans to look for Lestat…but he found Armand instead)
The Night Island story was initially pitched as a short-form series, with each episode lasting between 10-15 minutes. The story, penned by IWTV writer Jonathan Ceniceroz, was centered around thieves who sneak onto the island to steal a painting, only to discover that there’s much more going on than meets the eye.
AMC has been pretty quiet about Night Island since 2023. Talamasca: The Secret Order was announced, filmed, aired and cancelled since that time, opening up some questions about how the Immortal Universe might expand if we’ve already seen one very promising show meet its untimely end. It’s a damn shame because it was a really good show and you should go watch it if you haven’t seen it. Talamasca would have dovetailed so nicely with the vampires and witches.
Given Armand and Daniel’s popularity and their complex relationship, it makes sense that AMC would greenlight a new show that leans heavily into bankable characters with beloved actors…and as an added bonus fans would likely get a healthy helping of both older vampire Daniel (Bogosian) and young Daniel (Luke Brandon Field). That seems like a win-win in terms of setting a series up for success.

While the original Night Island concept was interesting, I’m hoping that the potential series avoids the slight misstep that Talamasca took by spending more time as a spy thriller instead of leaning heavily into the secret order’s paranormal investigations. Devil’s Minion offers a lot of intriguing possibilities and probably doesn’t need the whole art theft angle to make it interesting. Having Older Daniel and Younger Daniel would yield plenty of interesting stories.
Of course, fans who have read the books and watched the series know that there have been some changes to the canon, which means we probably wouldn’t see the Devil’s Minion story play out quite the same way as it does in the book. However, it’s also important to note that Armand is a master manipulator who can work with memories the way a glassblower works with molten glass. Imagine giving Zaman, Bogosian and Field room to really play with the whole “memory is a monster” concept from Interview with the Vampire season 2. Truth be told, we’re three seasons into The Vampire Chronicles and we still don’t really know who told the truth….
And as far as fitting it into the timeline, I have a pretty radical idea: What if the Devil’s Minion story (perhaps titled Night Island, or maybe not) came as a spinoff after The Vampire Lestat? They would dovetail perfectly, perhaps told as a flashback as we enter the QOTD timeline. Technically, the story is one of many in QOTD and it’s bookmarked between the events of The Vampire Lestat and Lestat’s exploits in Queen of the Damned. What if Johnson, Rolin Jones and the whole team decided to put some space between what happens in TVL and switch gears entirely with the Devil’s Minion story, which would then be followed by Lestat’s story in Queen of the Damned.
It’s radical, yes, but it kind of works because that’s kind of how it’s written anyway. And if we’re not getting more from Talamasca: The Secret Order, then a spinoff and/or limited series focused on Devil’s Minion would give time for Queen of the Damned to film. There are a lot of pieces to the Queen of the Damned story, so giving Armand and Daniel’s story the main focus while the QOTD story is filming gives fans something to enjoy while the lengthy production process moves along.
When Jones said fans would see Armand making Daniel a vampire IF there was another season of The Vampire Lestat, I could absolutely see that moment leading right into the Night Island spinoff, which could be a mix of past and present and all three actors could play a part in it. We know, thanks to Talamasca, that the order tracked Daniel after he left San Francisco. There are stories to tell there and there are also lots of stories to tell in the recent past, from Dubai through Detroit, that need to be told.
I can also see AMC making the big announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The Vampire Lestat season finale will hit right the week before SDCC and I’d imagine most of the focus will be on the new season of Mayfair Witches. The timing would be perfect to create buzz and make a splash with a Night Island/Devil’s Minion announcement.
With so many people hoping to see more from Zaman, Bogosian and Field, the timing seems right to give them their own sandbox to play in. We need another entry in the Anne Rice Immortal Universe and adding a Devil’s Minion series would be the perfect answer.
